My research and consultancy work focus on Islamic views on the conservation of cultural heritage, Arabic terminology of conservation, and the translation of conservation literature from English into Arabic and vice versa.
I am an independent researcher and a freelance consultant on the conservation of cultural heritage. My research and consultancy work focus on Islamic views on the conservation of cultural heritage, Arabic terminology of conservation, and the translation of conservation literature from English into Arabic and vice versa. I am the author of ‘Arabic Glossary for the Terms of Conservation for Cultural Heritage, with English equivalents‘, which is a working document on a lifetime work.
Previous roles were head of Conservation Section at Abu Dhabi Authority for Tourism and Culture; head of Heritage Unit at Bibliotheca Alexandrina; Lecturer at Conservation Department, South Valley University, Egypt; and freelance conservation architect contributing to numerous projects of architectural and urban conservation in the Arab region.
I am an active member of ICOMOS and the elected vice president of ICOMOS International Scientific Committee for Vernacular Architecture (CIAV) and am currently an advisor to ICOMOS World Heritage Unit on the nominations of properties for listing on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
