I specialise in the archaeology and heritage of (relatively) recent time periods, from about 1,500 years ago to the present day. I am particularly interested in settlement archaeology and material culture, and the information this can provide about human identities both now and in the past. I joined the EAMENA team in 2016, after five years as Medieval Researcher on the English Landscapes and Identities project, also based in Oxford, where I worked extensively with aerial imagery and very large datasets. In my EAMENA work, I am involved in projects in Lebanon, Sinai (Egypt) and the Marshes of southern Iraq, but I also maintain an active interest in the settlement and landscape archaeology of the medieval North Sea world.
