Rebecca Banks
My interests include Roman and Middle East archaeology, archival research, digitisation and database management / registration, and aerial photograph and remote sensing interpretation for archaeology.
I am a PhD candidate at the University of Western Australia, School of Humanities, affiliated with the Collecting the West project. I am investigating how documentation and database frameworks may affect understanding of Western Australian photographic collections and what they represent.
As an affiliate researcher with EAMENA, I am involved in the processing of aerial photographic collections for use in the research of the EAMENA project, including the Aerial Photographic Archive for Archaeology in the Middle East and the aerial reconnaissance of the Aerial Archaeology in Jordan Project, of which I have been actively involved since 2011.
I came to the Endangered Archaeology team in 2015 after four years with the Aerial Photographic Archive for Archaeology in the Middle East where I was also Research Assistant. I have participated in fieldwork in Lebanon, Spain and England as well as volunteered at the Museum of London and Shipwrecks Gallery in Fremantle, Australia. I completed a BA (Hons) at the University of Western Australia and a Masters in Museums Studies at Macquarie University, Sydney, in 2011, with projects at the Museum of Ancient Cultures, National Maritime Museum, and the Australian Centre for Ancient Numismatic Studies.
