My research and professional interests include the management and conservation of built heritage
My PhD is in the History and Conservation of Architectural Heritage from the University of Rome, La Sapienza, Italy. Thesis: International Principles for the Protection of Cultural Heritage during Armed Conflicts. I have a Master’s degree in the Conservation and Restoration of Historic Monuments and Sites.
My research and professional interests include the management and conservation of built heritage; assessing and recording risk and damage from natural and human-induced disasters, climate change, and armed conflict to archaeological sites and monuments using satellite imagery and on-site condition assessment and developing risk preparedness and management plans and methodologies for endangered cultural heritage sites; post-war and post-disaster recovery and reconstruction of cultural heritage; and new technologies, including mobile applications, for data recording and emergency management for archaeological sites.
I am Chair of the Cultural Emergency Response (CER) Board since June 2022. I am Vice-President of the Scientific Committee on Risk Preparedness of ICOMOS (ICOMOS-ICORP), and Vice-Chair of the ICOMOS Working Group for Safeguarding of Cultural Heritage in Syria and Iraq.
