In Durham, I direct the Archaeology Informatics Laboratory, a specialist research centre focussed on all aspects of digital archaeology including remote sensing, GIS, drone survey and photogrammetry techniques.
I am a lecturer in the archaeology of the Ancient Near East at Durham University. My research interests include landscape archaeology, the development of complex societies and the use of remote sensing and GIS techniques in archaeological analysis. I have led archaeological surveys in Syria, Oman, Azerbaijan and Georgia, using satellite imagery as a prospection tool to locate new sites and features on the ground. In Durham, I direct the Archaeology Informatics Laboratory, a specialist research centre focussed on all aspects of digital archaeology including remote sensing, GIS, drone survey and photogrammetry techniques. I am an advisor on the Persia and its Neighbours project, collating survey and excavation information from across the Sasanian Empire which stretched from Turkey to the Indus valley. I also curate the Fragile Crescent Project settlement database, one of the largest collections of contiguous archaeological settlement data in the world.
